Development Day Information

Volunteers are required to attend one development day. From 2024, the development day for Vinnies Summer Camps offers the opportunity to meet the team and contribute to planning for your chosen week. Therefore, ideally, attending the appropriate week's training would be best. However, should you be unable to commit to this day, please select an appropriate alternative.

New and junior volunteers please attend the relevant day for yourself. However, you will be most welcome to also attend your chosen week or term time development day. This will give you the opportunity to meet the team and feel involved in the planning process from the start.

Camp leaders and deputies the additional session is an opportunity to meet with other leaders, plan and draw on each others strengths. This is encouraged, but not compulsory.

Zoom is ONLY an option for volunteers who live outside of the diocese, as we know travel can be difficult, but meeting the team person is the best option. Travel expense forms are always available.

There are no doctors or hospitals on the island. However, should there be a medical emergency a helicopter for the island is available from the Coastguard helicopter based at Prestwick. The flying time to the island varies depending on weather conditions but it’s normal arrival time would be between 35 and 45 mins in good conditions.
